Did you know that your Volvo Engine is equipped with a Starting Aid – Pre-Heater?
How does it work? How is it activated?
When activated in cold temperatures the Pre-Heater heats the incoming air in the intake manifold. This builds up heat in the cylinders and helps to create combustion of the diesel fuel. The engine is designed to start at temperatures as low as –15 degrees without the use of a block heater (NO NOT USE ETHER).
To activate the Pre-Heater, turn the ignition switch to the run position. Then before trying to start the engine, push in on the ignition switch toward the center of the steering post. If you have fully charged batteries the coil symbol will light on the dash to indicate the Pre-Heater is activated. When the coil symbol goes out, start the engine. IT WORKS…
(As A Note: If electrical connection is available for the block heater, I recommend you use it but it is not required.)
